We believe Thunder Bay Trees is the internet’s only video blog dedicated solely to the topic of trees, tree care, arboriculture, forestry and urban forestry-and it is based out of Thunder Bay!

Episode 8: Thunder Bay’s Citizen Pruners

I recently caught up with Rena Viehbeck, who oversees the City of Thunder Bay’s Citizen Pruners program. The Citizen Pruners started earlier this year, and currently the volunteers come from the local tree advocacy group Trees Thunder Bay. In the future, the plan is to expand the program by recruiting and training more volunteers.

In this episode we also hear from Susan Jaward, who is a volunteer Citizen Pruner and an active Master Gardener in Thunder Bay. Finally we hear from John Mintenko an arborist, volunteering from Rutter Urban Forestry. Rutter Urban Forestry provides expertise to the Citizen Pruners program through providing consulting support during each of these pruning sessions throughout the season.

Feel free to contact Rena if you have any questions about the Citizen Pruners program, or other programs related to urban trees in Thunder Bay. You may also want to check out the City’s Homeowner’s Guidelines to Pruning Municipal Trees.

Also notice on the outro my overuse and abuse of the word information. I am thankful for my friend Randy Walberg who helped out taping in these less than desirable conditions.
